The Mystery is 20ft long over all with a 19' - 11 1/8" waterline length & 40 lbs. More information @ Guillemot-kayaks.com. It was handmade by Tim Feager and was his 7th kayak build over 25 years. He spent his early life as a craftsman and the workmanship shows. The hull consists of 3/16" strips of western red cedar and white cedar. The deck is 1/8" strips of western red cedar. The entire vessel is encapsulated in 4 oz fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin and then varnished. There are bulkheads fore and aft that are vented for traveling over the mountains as there are no hatches. Every consideration was given to weight in the build thus no deck lines, bungees or other touring kayak safety accessories. The rudder system is Smart Track modified to rest straight back instead of up when not deployed.
It has been well cared for and stored inside. Paddled in the Gulf waters and around Table Rock Lake. A fast cruiser that can easily maintain 5 mph and tracks straight. Having a fast boat was very important to him and why he was always searching for the next one. This is ideal for a racer or someone who just needs to make miles.
A brief trial on Creve Coeur Lake last week I was able to reach 5.9 mph in a short sprint and could have done better had I been more comfortable. My brother can no longer paddle so she needs a new home. More pictures available upon request.
