Apologies for not knowing how to post the Facebook info...

For those interested, Team Savage River (4 paddlers) passed through Moline / Rock Island this AM. Coming downriver, will be coming through the St. Louis area soon. If interested in following their progress or going out and cheering them on, current Facebook GPS updates show their location & progress. Good luck, Team Savage River!

You know you are a kayaker when you can't go over a bridge without looking for water under it.

Met Team Savage River yesterday as they came through the area. Started at Golden Eagle Ferry but they got passed me on the river before seeing them. These guys were beasts with a high turnover rate indicative of a much shorter race. Ever try to catch something like that Shocked in a solo canoe?

Closed half the gap in 20 minutes. After that, could only maintain the distance. Thankfully, they pulled over for a minute which provided the time needed. They seem surprised to see another paddler and, while all business, were also friendly and happy to talk. Drafted / visited but was already spent from the effort to catch them. Kind of like running a 5k PR at a marathon start. Dropped off around Pere Marquette and stopped in Alton. Team SR had already gone through the lock and were on their way to Chain of Rocks.

This morning, they're on their way to Cape G. With this organization, focus and effort, will be surprised if they don't break the record.

They are paddling a Savage River Saranac with rudder & spray skirt. Looked like a very efficient and nice boat that could handle MR chop while cruising along. 3 people paddling while one rests. Will continue to follow & see if they break the current mark.
