Oh my gosh, Traci -- that was some amazing filming, it truly captures the task you've set before you, and it is a fierce one! The 6-7 minutes of video communicates both the beauty and challenge you and Joe are facing while highlighting the sacrifices made as you train, prepare and complete this amazing adventure .. I'm so looking forward to watching and cheering for you!

Quite possibly the coolest teaser I've ever seen.
After paddling with Charlie you may decide to do it in aluminum though huh?

As most of you know by now, I will be doing this record attempt solo.

I hope you will all still follow me.

The best way to keep track of me will be through Race Owl.

Thank you all of you for your support.

I plan on following your accomplishments in the Just Around the Pointe Expedition, Traci. Congratulations on planning that Dispatch race and having more that 40 boats compete, by the way!

Traci Lynn Martin began Just Around The Pointe ... A Stellar Tour de Force March 9th! She's heading north up the west shore of Lake Huron, starting at Port Huron, Michigan. Natural waypoints ahead, in order of when they fall in her wake:
   1. Lake Michigan
   2. Lake Superior
   3. Ste. Marie's River
   4. Lake Huron
   5. St. Clair River
   6. Lake St. Clair
   7. Detroit River
   8. St. Lawrence River
   9. Atlantic Ocean
   10. Hudson River
   11. Mohawk River
   12. Oneida River
   13. Oneida Lake
   14. Oswego River
   15. Lake Ontario
   16. Lake Erie

Course revised to 5,800 miles back in April or May to make a more reasonable goal. Same as above with loop out around the St. Lawrence River, the Gaspé Penninsula, Nova Scotia, and the Erie Canal deleted(waypoints 8-14); the new route encompassing all five of the Great Lakes in clock-wise fashion.

Yes, you can follow at http://raceowl.com/JustAroundThePointe so see her progress. I'm working on improving the map so you can see her more clearly, so be patient for the next few weeks.

I got a photo from facebook today of Traci, see above.

She did 20 miles the first day, and has had to deal with some high wind, shore ice, and freezing gear since then, resulting in some off-the-water days. Hopefully paddling conditions will improve.

Traci tells me a ground crew will be with her second week of April. Right now she has made contact with various locals who have helped her during this down time. Ice is 1/4 mile along shore but some milder weather is coming this weekend. She has posted a video on Facebook showering off the ice from her pfd. Cables on the ski had frozen and she has sustained some damage to the boat itself. As one local said "this weather is not an anomally" I have renamed her Nanook of the North. Smiley

Traci-Lynn is making some progress now on the record-breaking attempt and has gone 71 miles north. Still ice all over near the shore. Traci started at Pt. Gratiot Lighthouse near Port Huron, is almost to the tip of Michigan's Thumb, and is by Port Hope now.

More ice and off-the-water days -- but back to paddling. She is almost 1/3 of the way around Michigan's lower peninsula now, heading north to Alpena.

[9/16/17] Traci has circumnavigated Lake Michigan(including Manistique, MI, Algoma, WI, Milwaukee, heading north from Waukegan, paddling past Chicago, Michigan City, Saugatuck, Cheboygan on 4/16; Mackinac Bridge on 4/17; Frankfort and past Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore on 4/26; past Ludington to Pentwater; going all the way around Michigan's Lower Peninsula, heading N. on L. Michigan)...then going west on L. Superior, then east by Montreal River Harbor; then at north end of Lake Huron with Manitoulin Island on her starboard, continuing east past Killarny NP. Over 2600 miles completed...started in Michigan, in Indiana Illinois Wisconsin the U.P. of Michigan Wisconsin Minnesota Ontario, Canada now.

.........that´s the equivalent of 7 MR340s out of 17 total for this course
.......I think that qualifies as an ultraendurance event
