Registration for the Gritty is open.  http://midwestpaddleracing.com/

All racers will receive an award medal, and a hot meal at the finish.

The race is 35 miles from Lawrence to Edwardsville, with no portage.  The Kaw is really moving and up right now.  There is little to no chance of any dragging or rocks.  This is a great fun race at a great price!

If you pre-registered for the Shootout, and you did not get your shirt (because you didn't show up at the start due to weather, I will have your shirt at the Gritty and you can collect it there).

Is there anyone from the St. Louis area going to the Gritty Fitty that can take a kayak paddle with? Rivermiles member would like to pick it up on the 20th at the race. Thanks in advance for your consideration...

Still looking for help with a shuttle for this- I have a car with racks for 1 other boat.

I can't be the only one going solo needing a ride- anyone else that is a single please shoot me a DM and we can help each-other out with travel.

Looks like we will have some decent weather and actually have a tailwind for a change this Saturday.

We've got about 20 folks registered right now, so don't be shy. Come enjoy the Kansas river.

Most racers finish around 4-4.5 hours and the finish is right in Edwardsville, 5 minutes from Overland Park.

The Gritty is supposed to be tomorrow at 9am.
I will be making a decision on the status of the race in the next 2 hours. Due to the heavy rains this week and currently today, the Kansas River is rising, and safety must be number 1. If we have to postpone it, it will either be a 1 week or 2 week postponement.

Sorry everyone, We have to postpone the race. The make up date will be exactly 2 weeks from the original: 9:00am start on Saturday, June 3rd. The Lawrence gage went from 12,000cfs to 40,000csf in the last 6 hours, and it's still rising. Lots of debris, rising river, no safe place to pull over, and an extremely dangerous dam at the end. Safety is the number 1 priority. Thanks for understanding.

Joe.. thanks for making sure safety is the priority!  We plan on spending a few hours at Jacomo just to get some time on the water.  See you in a few weeks!

Near picture perfect for the Gritty...Great weather with light winds...Mid 70's at race start and low 80's and partly cloudy from noon on.

The DeSoto gauge is sitting at 16,600 CFS which is a good volume of water for the Kaw! https://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?06892350
