I am considering training for the Gritty, but before I set myself on a course, I am curious when registrations are and how much they will be.

Chad,

We have a tentative date of Sept. 1 for the Gritty.  We are heavily focused on the MR340 right now so the Gritty finalizing probably won't take place for awhile.  Gritty fee is usually around $45 with tshirt and finishing prizes.  And usually some grilled food at the end.

We know more about the Kaw-lloween race Sept. 29th.  Manhattan to Wamego.  20 miles.  In partnership with the Wamego Chamber of Commerce.  That will be a fun little race.

Don't wait on the Gritty.  Many other races in the Throwdowns and Showdowns section of the forum.  Most in the 20-60 mile range which is all good training for the Gritty.  Grab your boat and come on out.

We're less than a month from the Gritty's date.  Is there any new information?

Thanks!

Since they are closing the Milford dam do we suspect super low water?  I may be looking for another boat to paddle in the Gritty if so.  The Karnivore was super low....... not hardly a drop of rain since..... I guess we should suspect pretty rough conditions.....???

I just want to hear that it is going to happen, any chance you would move the race to another location Scott?

I've been trying not to think about the Gritty.  The Kansas River is horrifyingly low.  I do not think it's an appropriate venue at this time for a 50 mile race.  This drought is fast becoming a record breaker.  I don't believe it makes sense to host a race on that stretch of river this year.  They have shut the lakes off and are now holding water back.  They have surrendered the Kaw to the drought.

We are planning to have the Kawlloween in late September in cooperation with the Wamego OZfest.  20 miles and hopefully some rain next month.  I believe they are also planning running and biking legs after you get out of your canoe in case the paddling wasn't enough for you.

The next Rivermiles Race will be the September 29th Kawlloween.

Currently, there is no Gritty on our schedule due to the drought and sequestered lakes.
