It might be fun to do this little jaunt a few weeks before the Kawnivore. While I liked the Kawlloween starting in Manhatten this year(loved the townspeople in Wamego), I did miss getting on that section of the Kaw in the fall last year. Maybe mid May will feel even better! Smiley
BTW considering my speed and balance , can I be considered "wreckreational" in the race catagory? Cool

Ron,

Is the recreational part like a college float trip?? Is the challenge part all surfskis and river rockets?? How about shuttling options. I look to start with the racers and end with the recreational people. Smiley I fear people who don't know me would say I was cheating if I started with the recreational class and tried to win the challange! Cheesy Grin No matter. I will see you there.

The weather is looking great for the "Ramp 2 Ramp" this Saturday and the interest level is up with a lot of RSVPs to date. This will be a fun event for a really good cause...the waterway that many of us paddle. Even if you can't make it to participate on water feel free to join in at the start or finish.

Johnnie...You make me smile with your comments...feel free to partake in either category as you wish...everyone who participates (whether recreational or in the challenge) has the reward and accomplishment of finishing!

Pappy...Happy to see that the Scroggin's clan will be joining us on the river.

Matt...I will be on the shore for this one directing, however I hope to see and paddle with all of you at Kaw Point tomorrow.

Happy Paddling and SYOTR Saturday!

Ron

- - No Shuttle Service Provided - -

There have been several inquiries about shuttle service. Please note, there will not be any shuttle service offered.

Feel free to use this thread to post a request for shuttle assistance (either before or after the event) or ask around at the event.

Shuttling

I have room for three people in my car but no room for boats. If anybody wants to drop there boat off at lawrence then drive to Desoto, I can pick them up and take them to Lawrence if someone is willing to drive me to Lawrence sometime after the race.

Or..... I can drop my boat off in Lawrence then drive to Desoto, leave my car in desoto and catch a ride back to Lawrence. I could then take people back to lawrence after the race--remember, I would have no room for boats...

Ideas anyone??.....

I would love to shuttle with someone and will help pay for gas.  I would like to leave my car at the DeSoto ramp.  If I could drop my boat off at the ramp then drive to DeSoto and get a ride back to the start that would be great.  Please send me a text or call 913-279-1733

Hi, all.

Saturday looks good with a forecast of mostly sunny and 85 degrees. Currently we have less than 4000cfs from Lawrence to De Soto, so you should see some beautiful sandbars along the way!

In case you haven't heard, the Kansas River was just designated by American Rivers as one of the top 10 endangered rivers in our nation:
http://www.americanrivers.org/our-work/protecting-rivers/endangered-rivers/2012e...

http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2012/may/14/proposal-increase-sand-and-gravel-dredg...

We appreciate everyone who will be participating in the Ramp 2 Ramp this weekend.  Your $15 suggested minimum donation will provide you with a one-year introductory membership to Friends of the Kaw, and in turn help us continue to preserve and protect the Kansas River.

Special thanks to Ron!   Smiley

Oh yeah! That is incentive! Roll Eyes

It is the sandbars we DIDN'T see last year that were a big drag(pun intended)

PS.. Whoa! i forgot which thread I was reading. I had a flashback to the Kawnivore. My apologies. Embarrassed

I am still looking for a shuttle for this race. If someone from Kansas city is willing to stop by Desoto and drive me to Lawrence before the race, there would be a six pack of their favorite beverage waiting for them. Wink Give me a counter offer.  No boat involved. You pick the time and I will be there .

That's an easy request, DL Johnnie.  I know a couple folks who are coming from that way.  I'll email them and send them to this thread.

Looks like most of the folks paddling will be in the challenge category, but we do have a few rec paddlers that will be starting at 8:30 a.m.  Would anyone like to volunteer to be a sweep boat that leaves with the 8:30 a.m. paddlers?  If so, just let me or Ron know.  We could feed ya at the end for your labor.    Cool

Thanks, all!  Looking like a great group of folks and a nice day tomorrow!
