Come one come ALL. We are planning our first Missouri River run of the season this Saturday, we plan on getting to Kaw Point 11:30 or so and leaving at NOON for Lexington. A Missouri River Shoot out practice run. Any one is welcome and you don't have to go to Lexington with all the stopping options along the river. Hope to see some of you there.

Pappy

If the start time is Noon and the sun sets at 6:20 are you planning to paddle into the night.  Should people bring lights?

Being 50 miles that's and average of about 8mph if a person wants to be in by dark.  I think for begginers that is a pretty aggressive pace.

Any chance of moving the start time?  Would hate to discourage newbe's early on for an awsome experience.

Just my thoughts.

Good point Bryan, our start time came about because of the rest of the Saturday stuff going on. Our Lexington goal came about because of cabin fever. Wheels are turning but we are probably not going to get going any earlier. That doesn't stop a group from going earlier or stopping somewhere along the way. I am just thrilled that we are planing a river trip in early March this year and if we do go into the dark at least we have a big full moon. We will keep any changes updated here on the forum.

Would Fort Osage be a viable alternate ending  for a group not quite ready to hit the Missouri after dark? I know it is short notice but would anyone be interested in some type of shuttle? Logistics are a bit "seat of the pants" on this.

Fort Osage at about 30 miles would be a great first of the year run, especially starting at noon. I am sure that Granny will be there when we get there, and can certainly get anyone directions to there when we are all at Kaw point if needed. I think our vehicle is over full and I may get tied to the roof for the trip back to Kaw Point..
We will call this a noon start so we can all get together and everyone can go as far they care. The high noon Missouri River buffet, paddle all you want!!!!

Hope to see a lot of folks tomorrow.

I am still looking to shuttle with someone or some people. I have a small car that is great for doing extra mileage with 3 other people but it only holds my boat. Any ideas??  Huh

I just had a nice conversation with Pappy and Granny Scroggins. They were going out of their way attempting to help this generally new to the Missouri paddler out with shuttling. The conclusionn was that maybe this isn't the best first time run on the Mighty Mo for me. I bow to experience and will go enjoy myself @ Longview today.

Thank you Pappy and Granny. This is exactly what I like about this community, helpfulness and intelligent discussions--well mostly intelligent. Smiley

Advice travels in all directions Johnnie, We took yours and stopped at Fort Osage. Was a great day on the water. It was cool enough that Yancy even put his shirt back on about 20-30 minutes before we got out. This is the earliest in the year that we have been on the river and it was so nice.
Hope to have many more such days soon and will try to get the information out in time to get as many as possible to join in.
