got to work this morning and found pancake ice coming down river, had increased thru the morning.
careful if you're venturing out on her this week!!!

p.s.  don't think global warming or cooling is to blame

I have the privilege of being able to see the river everyday. It always spectacular to see the Ice on the river. Forgive me for being a newbe I want to ask: Aside for cold weather/water and the fact that Kayaking is inherently dangerous  are there any real danger to paddling in the ice. Or is it more like a high traffic day on the water?

a newbie myself, but here's my two cents worth.

i usually put in at leavenworth and go up river.
like yourself, i see the river everyday at work.
i stopped to look at it yesterday on the way home from work and what i saw was most of the ice settled into the "idle water" areas i usually used going up river.
i haven't been to the leavenworth park yet, but would assume the egress to the water to be plugged by that idle water ice.

looked like there was room in between the pancakes in the channel.
i've heard of duck and goose hunters floating with ice on.

lookes fairly clear this morning, going to the park tonight after work just to see what it looks like there.

be safe!!! Wink
