I saw this in a year end wrap up provided by MDC.

DECEMBER
Missouri River Relief closed the year of Big Muddy Clean Sweep with a total of more than 60 tons of trash removed from the Missouri River by volunteers. The sweep included 1,201 bags of trash,15 tons of scrap metal, 493 automobile tires and five messages in bottles.

Way to go MRR!

At least they didn't find any wayward MO340 paddlers!

And I ain't too old to hurry
Cause I ain't too old to die
But I sure am hard to beat

Well......they did recover a vacant safety boat that drifted into the night........and at least one paddler that needed help off the river.

Thanks guys, the Clean Sweep was a fantastic success!  You can view all of the results on our results webpage:

or even better take a look at an incredible slideshow of photos from our month long journey going down the river by barge!

I enjoyed watching paddlers go by the barge (which we parked downstream a ways from the ramp in Washington) paddle by in the night, although, there were at least a few weary paddlers that did miss the ramp trying to paddle back upstream (not so successfully) getting awfully close to the bow of our barge... close enough to make me feel uneasy!   I was too busy to hear any stories, but I hope none involved paddlers & barges Wink

I was on the safety boat that helped rescue the adrift safety boat Josh mentioned, it was a beautiful morning, but we encountered 3 moving barges that morning!  I was like wow, that's alot of barges!  Luckily ours was tied up most of the time except to transit to the next clean-up location!
