That's right.  BYOB!  The Truman Lake Adventure Race will have some exciting new changes this year.  In our fourth year, the race has grown to include a 6 hour sprint and a 12 hour long course adventure race that includes paddling, mountain biking and orienteering.  This year we are opening up the event to paddlers who wish to bring your own boats (BYOB).  We are also adding a PADDLE ONLY division (no biking or orienteering required).  The paddle section will be 11 miles flat water with a 22 mile out and back option for those that want to go long (or don't want to bother with arranging a shuttle).  I'm still working out the permits but we are hoping to be approved for a night time race.  The sprint race and short course canoe will likely be starting at noon on April 14th, 2012 and the long course paddle and adventure race will start at 9:00 PM and go till 9:00 AM Sunday morning.  Keep checking our website for updates.  We'll be posting more info soon.  www.offroadfixation.com

Sounds like fun...something for everyone!!!

Would the kayak race(s) start at the same time as the adventure race(s)...i.e. mass start? I hope so, as my preference is to paddle with everyone.

I may be missing it on the website.... What will be the entrance fee for the paddle only option--both long and short race. With the starting times given, doing both races is a strong possibility.

I don't want to officially announce the race times or formats until I get my permit approved (should only take a couple weeks) but I wanted to get people here a heads up as it's a new venue and thought you'd like to start planning now.

The Sprint Adventure Race would run from noon to 6 PM.  The long course adventure race and canoe/kayak race (11 and 22 mile options) would start at 9:00 PM with a course closing of 9:00 AM Sunday.

You could easily race the Sprint Adventure Race and the Canoe Race or Long Course Race.

Prices would be as follows:

Sprint Adventure $75 per person ($70 if you BYOB)
Long Adventure $95 per person ($80 if you BYOB)
Canoe Race 11 mile $20 per person (must BYOB)
Canoe Race 22 mile $30 per person (must BYOB)

I'd consider special pricing if someone wanted to enter a voyager class or dragon boat.

I had originally planned to do the short canoe race and sprint adventure race at the same time but the arm of the lake I'd like to use for the canoe race and long course adventure race may have heavier traffic during the day due to crappie season so I was asked to move it to the night format as well.  Still working it though.  I'll try and make it happen if I can.

What would you all estimate your times for an 11 and 22 mile flatwater paddle on a somewhat large lake in April.  I'm making estimates with speeds between 3 and 7 mph depending on ability.

I've got the info up for the new races at www.offroadfixation.com

I have meeting set up with the land managers on the 9th and 15th of December.  I'll open up registration after those meetings.

Registration is open for the Branson 8 Hour Adventure Race and the 6 and 12 Hour Truman Lake Adventure Races.

Both races have a "Canoe/Kayak Race" Division (no mountain biking, orienteering required) that is open to solos and tandem teams.

Branson - March 17th. -  $20 per person - 4 or 8 miles

Truman Lake -  April 14 night race - $30 per person - 11 or 22 miles

Bring a compass or GPS as this will be flat water paddling on open water.

Why do I need a GPS for a 8 mile race?  Why so early of a start for a 8 mile race?

We will paddle rain, shine or fog.  I will provide a usgs topo map of the course with the checkpoints and you'll have to find them across the lake.  No gps required but I'd at least bring a compass just in case.  Weather looks good for Saturday so far but who knows.  Sorry about the early start.  We are doing an adventure race and added the canoe race since we already had to have a safety boat and regatta permit from the water patrol.  We have to start adventure racers and canoe racers together.  Plus I really wanted the true paddlers to play rabbit to the adventure racers....just to show em how fast you guys really are.

I absolutely understand starting everyone together it is much easier on the time keepers.  I really wish I could make it to this one, I want to support as many races in the area as possible, but the start is just too early for me.  Just too lazy.

We are on rain or shine.  Lightning and high winds are the only two reasons I might delay the start or cancel the paddling section.  You can call me (Kelly) at eight 1 six 7 three 8 sixty-five 7 two.
