Okay- we're all bidding against each other, and the price keeps getting higher, why don't we compromise. Instead of working against each other, You guys quit bidding and let me buy the boat. I'll let you borrow the boat anytime you want as long as it's on a Friday th 13th, that falls in the third week of the month. Roll Eyes
$1135

With all due respect to Wally and his knowledge of "stateside" racing craft, I would like to point out that this particular canoe (#3070) has many obvious faults with it that may be easily observed in the photos attached o the original posting of this thread.

Mainly:
         - the stern is all bent out of shape - looks like somebody has added an observation deck or small hellicopter landing pad to the once asscemmetrical as    stern!

         - from the appearance of the beam, especially in the photo where it is "belly up" in the water (obviously a very unstable craft), one could almost swear that the boat is pregnant leading to a slower pace, mandatory ice cream and pickle stops during long outings or quiet evenings on the sawhorses

         - there is obviously so much strain about her girth that not one, but two centre thwarts are required to hold her skin together!

         - cursery perusal of the unstable canoe, indicates that it would require two to three cases of ballast (Guinness) at all times; a hidden operational overhead!

         - the ash gunnels would normally add about three pounds to such a craft, but with the stern observation deck, the increase in weight is anyone's guess, not to point out the additional annual maintenance (sanding, oiling) that would be required  ...drastically cutting into the owner(s)' paddling time!

         - the apparently well situated bow and stern seats (a given positive) are black, thus creating excessive heat in the "nether regions", eventually causing a very uncomfortable rash requiring antibiotic care.

         - the colour, or color if you wish (north of 49*, there are still some old-country ties), is a wishie-washie middle of the chart choice - sort of like the boat.

         - "Dig Deep I" probablly refers to what should be done with the canoe - in a graveyard on Halloween eve.

         - finally, as illustrated by the final photo in the series, it is obvious that the craft has difficulties going foreward!

That all said, kudos to Missouri American Water, TeamOwen & Treeceand Missouri River Relief for giving us all a chance to participate in a unique opportunity.

Went and saw the canoe this weekend.  Very nice boat.  Unfortunately, the picture at the beginning of the thread is "actual size."  But I still want the boat to set on my fireplace mantle.  I understand that nobody else would really be interested, but I owe River Relief a favor or two so I guess I'll just settle this thing and post the winning bid.

$1160.00

Melanie, you can just mail me the boat in a shoebox.

I also owe Vicki and River Relief a favour - Ok and you too Scott, I guess  ...however I have several grandchildren that are just about "shoebox" size and would be able to ply the mini-craft back and forth in the community pool! ...and we have an empty spot on the wall shelf when it can be retired!  ...unless Scott, you have grandchildren -----

I think you guys have a bad case of bidding rapture. You need to see a doctor.  Undecided
You need to stop bidding now- cold turkey. Meet your problem head on. It's the only way you're going to save your future financial security. Go to Bidaholics Anonymous meetings. Together we can beat this.
Out of pure magnamity and concern for my fellow racers (and floaters- sorry had to get that in) I'm making one more bid to get you all off the hook.
1168.40

Chuck, you have enough boats.  Between you and Santo, the earth is already wobbling on it's axis due to the sheer amount of boat weight over on that side of the state.  Plus, we know you don't like to single blade.

I can only imagine you are bidding because there are no casinos in Ironton.

I'll see your 1168.40 and raise you another 3.40.

$1171.80

Chuck,
Thanks for your concern.
The doctor was too busy to see me until next week so I went to the DENTIST and all he did was pull my wisdom teeth and advised that the BA meeting is Thursday night! Then handed me a bill for $1168.40!! Have been going cold turkey (sandwiches!) for the past two days as this past weekend was Thanksgiving up here. Probably, and I think this is what you mean by floaters, I will have to float a loan to make this,

Di  ...deep down Chuck's not really a bad guy!  ...of course he will go halfsies with you
...and tell him you will just have to take an existing dbl blade apart and insert a T-handle and he will save a bundle on paddles ... he will be able to carry a jug of water, a jug of V8 V.Fusion, a jug of Guinness, a picnic basket of chateau briande smothered in hollandaise, and assorted French pasteries with a demi of Port and meander down the MO instead of this hell bent for leather stuff!!  Smiley  Cool Grin

Wow, only 3 weeks until registration opens for next year's 340 race and this fun little benefit auction closes!  Oh the anticipation!   Undecided  So I totally understand if you want to use the "buy it now" option and stick this beautiful racing boat under someones Christmas tree before Jan. 1st  Wink

Excellent boat for only 1500.00.  Gary Collins may walk away with this.  But I suspect there will be some vultures watching with a last second bid or two to steal it away at the deadline.

New Year's Eve just gets better and better.
