I'm a Missouri guy, so you'll have to excuse the ignorance, but could someone give me the exact location of the ramp we are starting from and ending at.

I think it is 8th and Oak in Lawrence, and then 9th and Woodend in Edwardsville.  Is that right?

That's correct.  Exact same places as when we did that float in May with the schoolbus shuttle.

Right.  I knew how to drive there, but I wanted to make sure I had the streets right, so I wouldn't tell anyone else wrong.

Thanks Scott.

As someone who has never been to these ramp locations.....how do I get there...do I need to allow more time to find the starting ramp or is it obvious.....are there places my support crew (ie. family) can see me during the race...and is the takeout/finish easy to find...and where is it!!!

the Kaw is new territory for me...I paddled up from Kaw point the other day for 6-7 miles...that is the sume total of my Kaw paddling time.

Help a brother out! Smiley

Hey Bryan it is easy.  Get off the first exit of I70.  Head south.  Just before you cross the Kaw park there at the park.  Walk you Kayak down the river bank and put in right there.  Then you can look cool by paddling down stream about 1 mile to the start.  Just tell everybody you got there at 5am to start warming up....

For the starting ramp, just google the intersection of 8th and Oak streets in Lawrence.   Edwardsville, 9th and Woodend.

Desoto is the only ramp for viewing, really.  It's about halfway through the race at 15 miles or so.  In downtown Desoto, you find Ottawa street and head north towards the river.  There are signs that say River Access.

I plan on getting on the river sunday to see what it's like. Anybody interested in checking it out? Joe, I traded my hurricane tracer for a prijon touryak. I know it won't be as fast, but right now I'm just looking for stability. I went out and paddled about 4 miles tonight with the kseakayakers at jacomo and it felt pretty good, but I need to get some river experience.

I have some questions on the Kaw race ....is the end of the race at what looks like a ramp (google earth) just above the low water bridge/rapid thingy you can see on the maps (river left) ....I paddled up the Kaw almost to this point from Kaw point.....is the river similar in character bellow edwardsville...or is is way more sandbar laden up from that point???

I can see how wind will be a major factor...and due to bends in river and fairly low river bottoms (canyon like in some locations)...it could be strong and depending on what turn you are on...come from every direction!!

Gonna be fun!

That's the right ramp, yo.  We'll have our yellow signs in the mud.  If you hit the dam, you've gone too far.

Should be lots of sand until just above the finish.  The last two-three miles are usually very little current, deeper water due to the dam.
